SUB: Observance of Environment Day–
2021.
Sir,
World Environment Day (WED) is the United
Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our
environment. The Observance of this day provides us with an opportunity to
broaden the basis for an enlightened opinion and responsible conduct by
individuals, enterprises, and communities in preserving and enhancing the
environment. It is said that WED is the "people's day" for
doing something to take care of the Earth. This year’s theme is Ecosystem
Restoration, a call to action to combat one of the greatest environmental
challenges of our time
Ecosystem restoration means assisting
in the recovery of ecosystems that have been degraded or destroyed, as
well as conserving the ecosystems that are still intact. Healthier
ecosystems, with richer biodiversity, yield greater benefits such as more
fertile soils, bigger yields of timber and fish, and larger stores of
greenhouse gases.
World Environment Day is the biggest
annual event for positive environmental action and takes place every 5th
June. To support the UN and celebrate WED in a most befitting manner the Green
Triangle Society in association with Rotary Club of Panaji and Rotaract Club of
Panjim is Observing World Environment Day on Saturday, 5th June 2021
by conducting a “Webinar on Ecosystem Restoration”. This webinar will commence
at 10.00 am and will be on virtual mode (zoom platform).
