OBJECTIVE
To train the participants in conducting Internal Safety Audit, as per I. S. 14489 (Code of Practice on Occupational Safety and Health Audit), in their organizations.
BENEFIT
Goa Factories Rule 90 B (Health and Safety Policy) at sub Rule 5 (e) stipulates that “the policy should specify that relevant techniques and methods such as safety audits etc. would be carried out in the factory”.
The Goa Control of Industrial Major Accident Hazards Rules, 1993 make it mandatory on certain industries (storing hazardous substances above certain threshold quantities) to carry out Safety Audit at frequency specified.
Apart from the statutory requirements many enlightened industries carry out safety audits to ascertain the status of safety in their factories.
These audits are generally carried out as per the I. S. 14489 (Code of Practice on Occupational Safety and Health Audit).
The present workshop is aimed at training the participants in conducting the safety audit in their own factories as per the above standard. This would help the factories to find out the shortcomings in their safety systems and take corrective measures. This would also help the participants in preparing for external audits.
To carry out safety audit is a technique and hence the participants can successfully become internal auditors for other systems such as OHSAS – 18001, British Safety Councils Safety Audit System, Process Safety Management System etc.
AN OUTLINE OF THE AGENDA OF THE WORKSHOP
The participants would be given basic information about the meaning of Safety Audit, various systems of Safety Audits followed in Indian Industries, merits and demerits of Internal and External Audits, Introduction to the 31 elements of Indian Standard 14489, the methodology of auditing, the information required for the audit, audit report etc.
The methodology of training will be based on Power Point Presentation. It would be an interactive program in which total involvement of all the participants would be ensured.
