EFFECTIVE WRITING OF SAFETY WORK PERMITS

One day   workshop on
EFFECTIVE WRITING OF SAFETY WORK PERMITS
19th October  2013, Conference Hall, Sanofi Aventis Limited, Verna Goa.

Green Triangle Society in association with Inspectorate of Factories & Boilers, and supported by Verna Industries Association, is organising   One day workshop on  “Effective Writing of Safety Work Permits”,  on Saturday 19th October  2013 at Conference Hall, Sanofi Aventis Limited,  Verna Industrial Estate, Verna Goa.
Safety Permits are a formal management system used to control high-risk activities.  A safety work permit is document that identifies the work to be done, the hazard(s) involved, and the precautions to be taken. It ensures that all hazards and precautions have been considered, before work begins.  An outside agency or employer performs high risk activity should always be Safety Permits, when at work. These enable an assessment of risks to be made and to specify control measures, which will be put in place in order to minimize the risk.
Certain safeguards that normally protect the worker may have to be removed when repair or maintenance work is to be performed. In such situation, the hazards involved needs to be identified, and a safe work system developed to eliminate or control these hazards
Permits to work will usually be necessary for such activities as maintenance or construction work by external contractors or employees, unless a risk assessment indicates otherwise. Some of examples of the types of work for which permits
·         Working at height, including on roofs and scaffolding
·         Working in confined spaces,
·         Hot work.  .
·         working on electricity supply systems
·         Work in areas where there is a risk of exposure to hazardous chemicals or microorganisms.

Why use a Work Permit?
When a job has the potential of causing serious injuries or death, it is necessary to formalize agreed upon work procedures. This prevents instructions from being missed, forgotten or misinterpreted. It also serves as a checklist to ensure that all hazards, protective measures, work procedures and general requirements are reviewed with and understood by the assigned worker(s). A work permit serves as a record of the authorization and completion of specific work. The authorization must be provided by a competent person after all the necessary conditions have been met.

At the end of this workshop, participants  will be able to know:
1.    When is a work permit needed?
2.    Types of work permits
3.    How is a work permit system set up?
4.    Ensuring a successful work permit system.
5.    Legislations pertain to work permit c.
